Jove’s Treasure Trove

Thunderbolts and generative rain, Jupiter is rolling in.

There are planets that astrologers track and pay keen attention to, due to the speed of their planetary orbit. Inner planets like Venus, Mercury and Mars move very quickly and their transits are swift and everchanging. Other planets like Saturn and Jupiter require a more curious eye from the astrologer, because their movement around the zodiac is much slower and their astrotracks hover over the material realm in a much heavier, profound way.

Approaching astrology from an archetypal perspective, the influence of a planet in the heavens cast their rays onto our mundane world, this planet is coloring the scenery or suggesting a mood in time. 

The mood this year overall has been shifting, we have the slowest planets like Pluto and Neptune both moving into new zodiacal signs. Saturn moved from his nearly 3 year stay in Pisces into Aries in May. Now Jupiter will shift from his year long visit to Gemini into the sign of Cancer on June 9th. 

Jupiter on average remains for one year in each zodiacal sign. The last time it entered Cancer was June 26, 2013 and spent just over a year there. 

Jupiters shift into Cancer is advantegous, for the following reasons. One it has been impaired in Gemini where it is known to be in detriment by planetary dignity. In other words, Jupiter has not been able to fully perform its Jupiterian ideals in this air sign. This could show up as failing to launch a creative vision or business, overwhelmed by the details, not knowing how to put the whole picture together for it to be fully articulated.

Jupiter moving into the sign of Cancer is a complete upgrade in terms of planetary dignity (which assisted the ancient astrologers determining the strength or weakness of a particular plane), gaining an exalted status. Exaltation is the second highest dignity, Jupiter is given a throne by the Moon, who rules Cancer. Jupiter is the co-ruler of this sign and has been endowed with a great sense of dignity and ability to perform the Jupiter functions.

TASKS OF JUPITER

Jupiter is the greatest benefic planet in the heavenly realm. Often associated with the God Zeus or Jove, the king on the high sky throne, ruling with a golden fist. Jupiter oversees high wisdom, imparting it from the heavens to us mere mortals. Jupiter, a law giver, but charitable in his heart. Jove often hands out blessings, grants great achievements. He is the Lord of the Sky, overseeing the material realm from a spiritual throne. Where we have Jupiter in our own birth chart, we may be given clues of our own blessing in this life, even if on its face it may at times see less than ideal.

Jupiter is associated with fertility and growth. Cancer is also associated with women, fertility, symbols of the Moon. Ancient astrologers have long theorized that the birth of the world has its own natal chart, referred to as the Thema Mundi, and Cancer is the rising sign, the portal for man. This symbolizes spirit descending down from the heavens and giving birth to the material world we all inhabit now. Cancer and Jupiter both denote the fertile nature of our material realm, and when the two come together, it is like a warm humid summer rain that encourages intense generative growth, direction and purpose.

Jupiter is also associated with thunder, symbolic for illumination and transformation. The image of a thunder bolt in a dark night sky is often associated with the godhead piercing the darkness and imparting logos or wisdom. Zeus and his thunderbolt on one hand is a call back to the ultimate authority of the gods or a higher enforcer in the heavens. Many cultures have a sky or weather god that utilizes this divine weapon. Yet the thunderbolt is also an active force that is dynamic and transformative and can encourage growth and change. In fact, many plants in late spring utilize the lighting for their own growth. Observe a thunderstorm in your area and the rate of plant growth.  One can actually encourage further plant growth by placing a copper coil near their plants, and this conducts the lighting energy into the soil and stimulates quicker growth. This is Jupiter’s great hand touching down from the heavens, spreading abundance.

Wherever Jupiter is in our chart, it provides a path for our soul and the themes associated with that house hold clues to where our soul feels most fulfilled and performing to the highest spiritual law of the material real. The journey of Jupiter isn’t all gold coins of course, we must look at the condition of Jupiter in context to the whole chart. Similar to the nature of greatest malefic Saturn, working with Jupiter can be emotionally demanding, but it is the subtext to the greater lesson, the riches that rest underneath the toil. Jupiter in the chart helps lead us down a trail to a place that enriches the soul with meaning and purpose.

JOVE’S TREASURE TROVE

All of us will receive Jupiter in the sign of Cancer on June 9th for an entire year, and during this year we may be provided with greater clues for wholeness and expansion, aligning us with greater personal wisdom.

When Jupiter enters Cancer on June 9th, whatever area in your birth chart it is transiting, we could expect fertile growth which includes dynamic change. Chart dependent, Jupiter’s presence can encourage that area to be blessed and exalted. 

For instance, if Cancer is your 2nd house, Jupiter’s entrance could bring increased awareness around finances, assets, and how you make your money. You may receive great blessings like a raise, a promotion or an opportunity to learn a new skill that increases your wealth. Jupiter in the 2nd may bring you the resources to greater finanical health.

If Cancer is your 11th house, the joy of Jupiter and the place of social allies and groups. Often referred to as the house of Good fortune, you can see a greater emphasis on friends and allies. This year you may become more involved with a club or organization, connecting seamlessly with individuals who assist you on your own journey towards achieving a goal, receiving great benefits from those who you surround yourself with. You may also fine tune your inner circle, zeroing in on who you want to surround yourself with, having a better emotional intelligence for who lifts you up.

Jupiter in Cancer is exalted and is given a very specific throne of protection for the next year. Jupiter seeks to protect your own personal well that you draw from and encourages blessings to the specific Cancer area of your chart. Whether Jupiter sends down lighting bolts or soft summer rains to our Cancer house, the encouragement of greater growth and new potential for the birth of new realities is coloring the ether.
